Hey racers! The weekend has arrived! Several announcements:
If you pre-reg’d you may pick up your racer packet at Gorge Performance on Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (no NEW registrations, however). If you do, please sign your name on the check-in sheet. You do not have to check in again on Sunday.
Race numbers need to be pinned on your left leg, facing left.
Registration opens at 8:00 a.m on Sunday at Oaks Park for packet pick-up and day-of registrations. We’ll shoot for a skippers meeting at 9:45 and racing to start at roughly 10:00. The Rec race, the Open race and the JRs race will take place at the same time with a wave start only minutes apart. The Kids Race and the Team Relay will follow the conclusion of the long course race. Then we’ll eat, finalize results, and start the raffle drawing and awards!!
Don’t forget, we’re serving lunch to you racers! You will receive a green Lunch Ticket in your packet. You have the choice between killer crêpes and Hawaiian plate lunch. Friends, family and spectators may purchase food as well (until it’s gone). Crêpes will be available all morning and through lunch. The Hawaiian Grille food will be available from noon on.
In traffic news….Heads up to folks driving south on I-5 over the interstate bridge this weekend. I-5 will be closed at the I-205 junction at Salmon Creek. You’ll be taking the scenic route via the I-205 bridge and then back into town on I-84. Do give yourself extra time!
Driving directions from I-5 southbound: immediately after crossing the Marquam Bridge (be careful, but look down and you’ll see the Dragon Boats!) take exit 299A to merge onto Hwy 43 South. Turn left onto the Sellwood Bridge. From I-5 northbound, take the Terwilliger Exit, right on Terwilliger. Left on Taylors Ferry, Rt on Macadam/Hwy 43 to the Sellwood Bridge. Turn left on 6th Ave. Left on Spokane. Right on Oaks Park Way. Once in the park, head south to the picnic area. If you’re a visual person, see map below and the aerial photo of the venue.
If you are racing in the Sprints on Saturday, or are joining in the spectator’s group paddle to the venue (everyone is welcome!!) please meet at Willamette Park at 10:00 a.m. We’ll depart by 10:30. Beyond that, well….it’s all a mystery exactly how this will go down, so come with a sense of adventure (and a sense of humor). And sequins and tutus if you feel inspired 🙂 Please note that the Grande Floral Parade takes place on Saturday morning!! Plan your routes (to Willamette Park or downtown) carefully. Don’t forget to pay for parking at Willamette Park! Pay meters are by the soccer field. $1 per hour. Free parking at Gorge Performance if you don’t mind the walk.
